EU ETS Cost Estimator
Estimate indicative EU Emissions Trading System exposure for a ship's annual emissions — voyage-scope coverage, the 2024→2026 phase-in, and your own allowance price.
12,000 t CO₂e × (30%×100% + 60%×50% + 10%×100%) = 8,400 t in scope × 100% phase-in = 8,400 EUAs × €75. Indicative only — actual surrender depends on verified MRV emissions, voyage definitions (incl. port calls, transhipment-port and ice-class rules), CH₄/N₂O factors and the EUA price at surrender.
How it works
The arithmetic, and its limits.
Scope and coverage
Ships of 5,000 GT and above calling at EEA ports are in scope. Coverage is 100% of emissions on voyages between EEA ports and while at berth in an EEA port, and 50% on voyages arriving from or departing to a non-EEA port. General cargo ships of 400–5,000 GT are in MRV reporting scope.
Phase-in and gases
Verified emissions are surrendered on a phase-in: 40% for reporting year 2024, 70% for 2025, and 100% from 2026. CO₂ has been covered since 2024; methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) count from reporting year 2024 onward. Enter your total in tonnes CO₂-equivalent.
Sources and caveats
Based on Directive (EU) 2023/959 amending the ETS Directive, and Regulation (EU) 2015/757 (MRV) as amended. Voyage definitions — port calls, neighbouring transhipment ports, ice-class and outermost-region rules — can shift individual numbers. This is indicative arithmetic, not compliance advice; reconcile against your verified MRV report.
